What is Easy Homemade Soap?

Easy Homemade Soap is a blog that links to www.NaturalHomemadeSoap.net.  NaturalHomemadeSoap.net began as a shopping comparison site allowing visitors to find the products they want at the lowest available price.  I have several shopping comparison sites for various niche markets.  They are great for the products about which I have less passion and for which people already know what they want to buy.  Since health and wellness is my passion, I wanted a venue which would allow me to share the wealth of information that I am learning as I do my research--research that I do anyway just because I love learning about this stuff.  So I am in the process of rebuilding www.NaturalHomemadeSoap.net into a more content rich site.

To make sure we have a clear understanding about what I mean when I say "Easy Homemade Soap" or "Natural Homemade Soap," let's break it down one word at a time in reverse order, starting with the word "soap."

I am using the word "soap" loosely here to mean any cleaner.  Yes, I do mean bars of bath soap and liquid hand soap; but I also mean body wash, shampoo, facial cleanser, laundry soap, dish soap, and all purpose household cleaners.  Our skin is in contact with all of these products and we inhale the scents from all of their ingredients when we use them.  So I will include them all.

"Homemade" obviously means products you make yourself in your own home.  However, many home-based entrepreneurs make handcrafted soaps to sell.  I plan to invite them to advertise on my blog.  Many other companies started out in their own kitchens but grew into larger facilities yet continue to use their original home recipes.  I will be reviewing and promoting those products that I use myself.

"Natural" refers to ingredients that come from nature.  Most will be plant-based and preferably organic; although, some soaps are made with milk.  Because the skin is the largest organ of the body and the first line of defense against disease, we need to use the purest ingredients possible on our skin.  To reduce the indoor air pollution in our homes, we must use the purest ingredients possible to clean our homes.

"Easy" means that the recipes that I share will have just a few ingredients and a few simple steps.  Not many of us have the time to make all of the personal care and household cleaning products that we use. So I will make it "easy" for you to go as natural and green as you desire by providing information and resources for ingredients, supplies, equipment, and ready-made products.

There you have it!  Easy Homemade Soap will be providing recipes and recipe books for easy homemade soap and related products.  Here I will be sharing information about the dangers of some of the chemical ingredients used in commercial products and the benefits of many of the popular ingredients in natural products.  At www.NaturalHomemadeSoap.net you will find the resources for making your own homemade soap along with ready-to-use natural products that I have tried and like for myself and use in my own home.

About Me

Welcome to Easy Homemade Soap!

My name is Deborah Clark.  After 33 years as a Registered Nurse, I retired in 2012 to embark on a new path.  I have a BS in holistic nutrition.  I am a vegetarian and am gradually moving toward a more high raw diet.  I am one of the co-authors with Greg Reid of the book, Initiative.  I have three grown children and three grandchildren.  I live with my life and business partner in Yuma, AZ.

Most of my 33-year career as a nurse was spent in the operating room.  My hands would breakout from the harsh detergents we used to scrub our hands before surgery.  Then I developed an itchy rash in my underarm area, which turned out to be due to an allergic reaction to the commercial deodorant/antiperspirant that I was using at the time.  After trying a few different commercial brands, I tried the natural products in the local health food store.  The rash cleared up and never returned.  These two issues got me thinking about all of the other personal care products and household cleaners that come in contact with my skin.  The skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs the ingredients in the soaps, lotions and other household products that come in contact with it.  Those ingredients end up inside our bodies.  It occurred to me that if it isn’t safe to eat, it probably isn’t safe to put on my skin either.

Over the past several years, I have researched and used natural homemade soap and various other natural personal care and household cleaning products available online and in health food stores.  Much to my dismay, I found that not everything sold in the health food stores is truly healthy.  Reading and understanding the labels and ingredient lists is as necessary a part of informed shopping in a health food store as it is in an ordinary grocery or drug store.  The more I learned, the more passionate I became about both what I put in my body and what I put on it.  My friends and family are probably tired of my lectures, so I decided to create a blog where I can share with everyone concerned about the health of their bodies and the health of the environment the dangers of many of the ingredients found in commercial skincare, hair care and household cleaning products.

As an alternative to the standard commercial products, I plan to share some easy homemade soap recipes so you can make your own homemade soap, skincare, hair care, and household cleaners.  Although with these easy homemade soap recipes many personal care products can be made from ingredients you already have on hand, most of us are too busy or simply prefer the convenience of ready-made products.   With that in mind, I will also be providing product reviews of the natural products I buy and use myself.  Thank you for visiting and please stop by often.
